According my manual, when engaged in part-time, the front and rear axle are locked in the TC and should only be used on SLIPPERY surfaces. The fulltime 4x4 is only in the ones with a V8.The ones with the 4.0 have the part time 4x4. I have a 98 Grand Cherokee Laredo with a 4.0L and I have the option of 2WD, Part-Time 4WD, Full-Time 4WD, and Part-Time 4WD Lo. The Quadra-Trac 4WD systems are on the Grand Cherokees with the V8 and the Selec-Trac is on the Grand Cherokees with the I6. It allows 2WD, 4WD part-time with a 1:1 ratio and 4WD part-time with a 2.72:1 ratio.
