A lit engine management light, as is the case with my Ducato, is an automatic fail. Bought the above reader and did a few tests but I am stuck because there appear to be no stored trouble codes. This is the procedure: 1) Start a scan and wait for it to complete.
They told me to just reset the car if the check engine light came back on. Fourth drive: 500 km (highways). Same pattern: it worked fine for 2 hours, then the glitches started again. Later the engine light came on while accelerating together with a big puff of white exhaust smoke that lasted maybe 5 seconds.
I dunno why Fiat seem to find it so difficult to produce a reliable stop/start system on their cars. I can sort of understand cars like the 500 & Panda (with their small batteries) struggling at times, especially with only short journeys round town, but I see people with Giulietta's that do decent mileage and now 500X's struggling to get a consistent stop/start performance too.
